This is a story that I drafted some time ago. Revisited a year or so ago, added a different protagonist, and a new angle on the story.

This book is inspired by several of my husband’s cases as a long-time criminal prosecutor and the loss of someone I knew in college.

Marta doesn’t know exactly what draws her to the Small Alaskan town for her first real job as a prosecutor. A tie to a past she knows nothing about. Family she’s never met. Possibly an escape from the fiancé she isn’t sure she wants.

When she arrives, the town has just seen its first murder in nearly a decade. Two kids have shot an older man in an act of vigilante justice.

As vivid dreams and an over-decorated grave continue to drag her to an old case, the new case begins to feel far too convenient.

A visit from her fiancé and his true crime podcast, has her sending him down a rabbit hole while she, an outsider, fishes for answers in a town that seems very unwilling to give them to her. 

She would never have guessed the ways in which her life connects to the small town, two cases left in the dust, and two teens about to be on trial for murder. With the clock ticking on trial dates, Marta is desperate to find the truth before the two teens are convicted…or set free…
